Shingle Roofing in Kingston, ON & Surrounding Area
Asphalt shingle roofing remains one of the most popular choices for homeowners because it offers a balance of durability, appearance and affordability. At All Around Roofing, we install shingle roofing systems using quality materials and proper installation techniques designed to protect your home from Ontario's weather and follow manufacturers warranty conditions.
Why Choose Shingle Roofing?
Shingle roofing is a practical choice for many Kingston-area homeowners, offering reliable protection, a wide range of styles and colours, and a cost-effective roofing solution. At All Around Roofing, we focus on proper installation from the roof deck up. We use quality underlayment, appropriate fastening patterns, ice and water membrane where required, and proper ventilation to help create a roofing system built to handle Ontario weather. Whether you're replacing an aging roof or building a new home, we'll help you choose a shingle system that fits your home, needs and budget.
Our Shingle Installation Process
1. Complete Tear-Off & Roof Deck Inspection
We begin by inspecting the existing roofing system to identify damaged areas, ventilation concerns and any other issues that need to be addressed before installation. We don't simply install new shingles over an existing roof and call it a day. When replacing a shingle roof, we remove the existing roofing materials down to the roof decking. This allows us to properly inspect the decking underneath and identify damaged, deteriorated or otherwise compromised areas before the new roofing system is installed. Any necessary deck repairs are addressed before moving forward.
2. Premium Platinum Synthetic Underlayment
Once the roof deck has been properly prepared, we install Platinum synthetic underlayment as part of the roofing system. Platinum is a premium, high-performance synthetic underlayment designed to provide an additional layer of protection between your roof decking and shingles. Platinum synthetics are the highest grade of synthetic underlayment available on the market, and worth every penny.
3. Cap-Nailed Underlayment Installation
We take the installation of the underlayment seriously. Rather than relying on basic staples, we secure our Platinum synthetic underlayment using cap nails. Cap nails provide a larger plastic or polymer head that helps hold the underlayment securely while reducing the risk of tearing around the fastener. While staples may be permitted by some manufacturers under certain installation conditions, we choose a more robust fastening method because proper preparation is an important part of building a roofing system that performs properly.
4. Ice & Water Protection
Ice and water membrane is installed in the areas where it is required or appropriate, including vulnerable roof edges, valleys and other areas susceptible to water infiltration. This provides an additional watertight layer beneath the shingles where it matters most.
5. Shingle Installation & Proper Fastening
Our shingles are installed according to the manufacturer's installation requirements, with careful attention to proper positioning and fastening. Tim consistently uses a six-nail fastening pattern on our shingle installations, providing additional fastening points beyond the minimum requirements for many standard shingle installations. This additional fastening helps provide greater resistance to wind uplift and helps reduce the risk of shingle blow-off during major weather events. While minimum code and manufacturer requirements provide the baseline for installation, we believe in going the extra step when it can help improve the long-term performance and durability of the roofing system. Our shingles are installed according to the manufacturer's installation requirements, including proper positioning and fastening. Correct nail placement, fastening patterns and installation techniques are important not only for the performance of the shingles, but also for maintaining the manufacturer's warranty requirements.
6. Flashing, Ventilation & Roof Details
We pay attention to the components that often make the difference between a roof that simply looks good and a roofing system that performs properly. Flashing, vents, valleys, roof penetrations, ridge ventilation and other details are addressed as part of the installation.
7. Final Inspection & Cleanup
Once installation is complete, we inspect the finished roofing system, check the installation details and clean up the work area. Every property is nail raked, and eavestroughs are clear of shingle debris before we ever call it a done project. Our goal is to leave you with a professionally installed roofing system and a property that is clean and ready to enjoy.
